We have been building, fixing and programming computers since
the days of the commodore 64 machines. Of course, this has involved many
virus problems. We have used all of the major anti-virus software packages
and the online virus scan sites. We have devised many of our own
techniques to remove viruses and we will share them with you on this site.
History
The site arose from the fact we were getting the same
questions from many customers. We decided it would be prudent to create a
site to help people faced with viruses, worms, trojans or other bugs.
In the early days we discovered that the producers of Norton Disk Doctor came out with an new antivirus software.
In no time, Norton anti-virus became the number one protection against computer viruses. With the development of "Live Update", users could download the latest virus definitions free of charge as long as they had a subscription (usually yearly).
Eventually, symantec developed a suite of products that they called Norton System Works. When you buy it, it is usually followed by the year as in Norton System Works 2002 or Norton SystemWorks 2003, etc.
The product included 'clean sweep' to clear internet clutter and to do clean removals of programs no longer used.
It also includes utilities to optimize your disk and fix windows problems such as registry errors.
It also scans e-mail for email viruses. It detects viruses in email before they reach your system. It gives you the option to fix the virus, remove the virus, quarantine the virus, or delete the file with the virus.
The symantec suites were very similar until the release of Norton System Works 2004.
In the 2004 edition, it allows you to select which fix you want to apply and which fixes you want to skip. It also has a password encryption and protection function.
Beyond these great features, it automatically runs a scan when you put the a disk. If you boot from the CD, you can choose to start scanning for viruses right away to check already infected computers.
To this day, norten has one of the best and most trusted virus protection suites available online or in stores.
Just ask for Norton if you are buying it retail because many people misspell symantec in such as symantic, symentac, symatic, etc.
The main rival, and some say the top anti-virus software package comes from McAfee.
I continue to use both of these programs on different computers. One thing I like about MacAfee is that they have an online virus scan.
I am pretty sure it is a free anti virus software with no downloads necessary.
It is an anti virus program that scans the files on your machine from a website.
The main problem is it won't catch an incoming email virus. I think it is more for
virus removal after the fact. There was a place that did housecall anti virus work
but we found that they were using free anti virus downloads that didn't have the latest virus definitions downloaded.
Virus protection free is not a good idea unless it is free online virus scan site that keeps the latest virus definitions loaded.
After all, what good is virus scanner if it doesn't detect a virus. It is not a real virus check if it doesn't alert you or detect.
If it will at least detect a virus, you can use a virus removal tool. When searching for McAfee, you may also find it spelled macaffee, mcaffee, mcafee, macafee, macaffee, etc.
If it is an anti gratuits virus, you wil have to buy software. Either the CD or download it from the internet.
We try to keep the latest virus informatico on new virus threats and offer anti virus gratis where possible.
We have also run into the good old virus hoax. This is where someone tries to convince you that you have a virus by telling to look for a file. When you find it, you think you have a virus. They tell you to erase the file. The problem is that the file you erase is not a virus, but rather, it is an important file. This way, they try to screw up your computer by tricking you into taking some action.
